On April 1, 2011 Penelope Cruz received the 2,436th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the El Capitan Theatre. Cruz becomes the first Spanish actress to receive a Star.

Penelope Cruz is set to reunite with Italian director Sergio Castellitto in his war tale "Venuto al Mondo" as Gemma, a single mother who brings her teenage son to Sarajevo, where the boy’s father died during the Balkan War. The film is based on an Italian bestseller. The part is a switch for Penelope Cruz, who has until now mostly been sliding between Hollywood- and Spain-based movies.

“I like that it’s a movie that’s not Spanish or English. I love this part of the job that lets you become someone else with a different nationality.”

In an interview with the Italian publication La Repubblica Penelope Cruz commented on playing Gemma, saying, "I feel as an actress Gemma will be playing one of the most important opportunities of my life."

After being shelfed since 2007 Penelope Cruz's film Manolete (originally shot in 2005, four years before Cruz won her Oscar for Vicky Cristina Barcelona) will release on demand via cable, satellite, telco and online in June 7, 2011 under the title, A Madator’s Mistress.

New images from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides were released by Disney with each featuring - who else - Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

One image shows Sparrow and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) fixed on something... someone. The other image shows Sparrow finding his way through thick tropical vegetation.

Both images are likely from the film's final act in which Sparrow, Barbossa, Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and Blackbeard's daughter Angelica (Penelope Cruz) find the land mass and area where the sought-after Fountain of Youth is presumably hiding.

In February 2010, it was reported that Penelope Cruz was in negotiations to appear in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film as an unspecified role.

Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp and sail the seven seas in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth installment of the movie series being directed by Rob Marshall.

Cruz's character details are also being kept secret, though she is to be Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways.

For Cruz, the role reunites her with Marshall, who directed her in "Nine." Her performance garnered her an Oscar nomination in the best supporting actress category just last week. She won the Oscar for best actress in a supporting role for 2008's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."

Rafael Alcazar tried to adapt Manuel Vazquez Montalban's novel into a film that unfortunately, doesn't make much sense. The basic flaw lies in the screen play the director wrote that sounds false from the start. We are not drawn into the action the way Mr. Alcazar has directed this movie.

The acting goes from the bad to the worse. Omero Antonutti, an Italian actor we had admired before has done excellent work for other Spanish directors, mainly Victor Erice, also with the Taviani brothers in his native country. One can only hope he was well paid for his efforts.

I happened to catch this movie on cable last night and found it to be truly fascinating even though I had to concentrate on reading the sub titles instead of looking at the picture and listening. Miss (Penelope) Cruz totally owns this film but ALL the acting is excellent. The raw passion of the main characters holds the viewer's attention throughout. Jamon Jamon is only Penelope's second movie according to her film biography but she shows NO inhibitions in her portrayal of a young passionate woman seeking love and fulfillment. Even her mother and potential mother-in-law are steaming with sexuality and seeking passionate liaisons. The potential father-in-law also gets a bit of titillation from the character so beautifully portrayed by Miss (Penelope) Cruz.

I saw this film in Chicago at a film festival, and have been looking for a copy of it since. It's one of the best movies I have ever seen. The story is very fun and I remember feeling like I was somehow involved in the story. I believe that this movie was a bit ahead of time regarding the general acceptance of gay relationships in film.

As a straight but open minded fan, I wish this movie had been more widely promoted and not pigeon-holed as a gay-themed film. As I mentioned above, I have been unsuccessful in finding a copy of this movie in any medium.

Not that bad., If you like Penélope Cruz or Juan Diego Botto, don't ever watch this film. Possibly it is their worst interpretation. But La Celestina is more than these two players. All the supporting actors and actresses make a really good job, and it is always a pleasure to see Terele Pávez playing. The setting is good, the dresses are quite correct and the adaptation of this difficult book (novel or theater play or whatever the critics decide it will be) is, at least, acceptable.
